Shopbook of James Woods [manuscript], 1848-1859, 1867, 1871.

Daybook of an Albemarle County, Va., blacksmith, includes accounts with members of the Barksdale, Burnett, Coles, Critzer, Ferguson, Goodloe, Harris, Hudson, Key, Massie, Mawyer, Norvel, Page, Pugh, Robertson, Rodes, Sanders, Waites, Ware, and Yancey families. Many accounts are initialed "drawn off 1871 Cutler" possibly indicating the settlement of Woods' estate. There are miscellaneous notes on peach trees planted, bricks purchased, stock driven to range, beef and hogs killed, farm wages paid to servants, tobacco crop, and land assessed. Loose papers in the daybook include a notice from James Jones concerning debts owed to the estate of James H. Daniel of Albemarle County, 1867; a letter, 1857 July 4, William Woods to James Woods concerning life in Dunmore, [W.] Va.; and a receipt for the sale of a slave, 1856.
